Facebook Marketplace scams are on the rise: 9 out of 10 online shopping scam victims say they were scammed through Facebook or Instagram in 2021, according to the Federal Trade Commission’s latest report.

“Unlike eBay or Amazon, Facebook Marketplace shoppers have a lot more direct interaction and conversation with sellers,” says Paul Bischoff, a privacy advocate at Comparitech, a cybersecurity company. “That creates opportunities for scammers to trick victims into a number of scams with less oversight.”

These scammers are just so tedious and the payment platforms need to do more. How do these people even manage to open a bank account when most of us are required to give what we had for breakfast and a letter from the Pope to open an account? The other thing is to definitely meet inside a cafe or pub because it's not uncommon to meet outside somewhere and simply be mugged.
